Usually, quiche has a crust and a Frittata does not.  This recipe has a "crust" made of cheese, but I'm calling it a frittata anyway. Replacing my typical shredded potato crust with shredded cheese was a happy experiment owed to a temporary abstention from carbohydrates, thus the word 'paleo' in the title.  I'd be shocked if a doctor endorsed this substitution, so I didn't ask one.  Because being shocked is definitely bad for you. As delicious as a crispy hash brown crust is, I didn't miss it. While sharing it with my children (in a stunning turn of humanitarianism) someone commented "mmmmf...

Don't let my tan fool you, I'm a Pacific Islander.  Yes, my Island is a bit North of Hawaii, but let's not split hairs. We were recently back in Hawaii, staying at the beautiful Sliding Wall house just up the mountain from the world class beaches of the Big Island.  I would wake up to a panoramic view that stretched from the snow-capped peak of Mauna Kea, past Mauna Loa and Hualalai to the sparkling Pacific.  From this house, it feels like you have the largest Hawaiian island all to yourself. The Big Island is renown for fishing and also produces exquisite...

My Mom's Cinnamon roll recipe makes 4 dozen, or not quite 10 each if you have a family of 5.  It's a lot of cinnamon rolls-but somehow never quite enough. I've never actually eaten 10 cinnamon rolls from a single batch, but only because my Mom would always give many of them away.  I suspect that her recipe grew in volume over the years because they are simultaneously too good to share, and too good not to share.   I've reduced the recipe to 1 dozen for those without children and with enough friends already. God help you if you have children and make a single dozen. Dough Ingredients 4...

There's no one I've spent more time hunting and fishing with than Captain Alaska (AKA Hughey).  He was there when I shot my first deer, and when I missed a second one from 40 yards.  He insists it was closer to 20 yards, but somehow 40 feels to me like an appropriate balance of historical accuracy and personal shame.  In Alaska the odds of your hunting and fishing success double when he is present, similar to the effect Tamasese has on adventures in Hawaii.  Apart from the infamous Banana Incident of 2013, our fishing trips have always been successful-both in fish...

Growing up in Alaska, it never occurred to me to hunt fish from their side of the surface.  I'm a huge fan of breathing, and being underwater has ruined the experience for me every time.  So, when Tamasese expressed an interest in spearfishing in the cold north Pacific I immediately volunteered to be the designated driver. I pondered offering my services as a dive buoy, but in the end we decided that I would be most useful on-shore where the risk of drowning myself and others would be minimized. Before I met Tamasese, I didn't know anyone that could dive 90 feet straight down...
